a soldier in his shirtsleeves, leaning over a makeshift tub filled with water. As he scrubs his clothes on a washboard, he is looking up at the camera and smiling. Existing in the squalor of the trenches, soldiers rarely if ever had the opportunity to wash or change clothes. Unsuccessful attempts were occasionally made to kill off lice and other parasites by boiling uniforms in large vats of water. Due to a lack of proper sanitation, dysentery, trench foot and trench fever, amongst other conditions, were rife.
This photograph with its rather flippant and condescending caption is a good example of the type of material the Government and Military often used as propaganda, to convey a positive impression of life at the Front.

The photograph comprises a grass field which has been flattened down around the front of the composition. There are two bodiless soldiers with their torsos emerging from a circle in the grass. They are back-to-back and looking off into the distance. The soldier facing the camera is helmetless. They both seem quite relaxed. It is thought that John Warwick Brooke is responsible for this photograph.
Dugouts became such an integral part of most soldier’s experience that they are usually referred to merely in passing.

For people outside the information technology ("IT") industry, the phrase "Enterprise 2.0" is likely to be completely meaningless; indeed, even many IT professionals aren’t sure what it means… which made it all the more interesting when I joined four other consultants and speakers in Rome for a three-day conference on the subject.
In case you’re interested, the Wikipedia definition says that Enterprise 2.0 is "a term describing social software used in “enterprise” (business) contexts. It includes social and networked modifications to company intranets and other classic software platforms used by large companies to organize their communication." You may also want to see a YouTube explanation of Enterprise 2.0 provided by Andrew McAfee, of the Harvard Business School, who is usually credited for having created the term way, way back in 2006
In overly simplistic terms, you could think of Enterprise 2.0 as the combination of blogs, wikis, Twitter, and other social media tools, for collaboration within the modern business organization. But there’s more to it than that; large businesses have to worry about architectural issues (our conference included a good presentation on "Service Oriented Architecture," or SOA), security, enterprise mashups, culture change, and a host of other issues. Enough issues, as it turned out, to keep the five speakers at this conference quite busy for the three-day schedule.
When I wasn’t up at the podium giving my own presentations, I was standing in the back of the room, photographing the other speakers. I also photographed some of the conference participants, and the administrative staff at the conference, but I thought they might be annoyed if I uploaded their photos. So, what you’ll see in this Flickr set is a collection of photos of Colin White, Mark Madsen, Zach Wahl, and Gabriele Pelligrenetti … and none of me (’cause I was the guy with the camera), except for a couple of photos of a panel session at the end of the second day.
So now you know what Enterprise 2.0 is about; if we hold the conference again next year in Rome, maybe you and your friends can come along…

ITIL v3 – Alles was man wissen muss
Diese Buch besitzt als eines der wenigen deutschen Bücher über eine offizielle Lizenz der OGC (ITIL Rechteinhaber. OGC hat dieses Buch geprüft, lizensiert und bewertet es wie folgt: Das Buch spiegelt die aktuelle ITIL Version 3 wider. Es gibt einen sehr detaillierten Überblick über alle fünf Bücher (Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operation, Continual Service Improvement). Zudem ist es eine gute Darstellung des Zieles, Kontextes und Inhalts der aktuellen Version des Leitfadens. Das Buch ist für diejenigen, die einen Überblick über ITIL erhalten möchten, um die Zertifizierung zu erreichen und die Methoden und Tools in ihrer Organisation zu implementieren. Der inhaltliche Aufbau ist an die fünf Bücher der ITIL Version 3 angelehnt. Zunächst erfolgt ein Überblick über das Qualifizierungsschema und den -ablauf (Foundation, Intermediate, Expert). Hier werden auch weitere verknüpfte Themenbereiche wie z. B. ISO/IEC 20000, COBIT®, M_o_R®, CMMI, PRINCE2®, MSP ®, P3O® beschrieben.
